Central Park: Traquil Haven or War Zone?

Oh my gosh, I got stressed out just reading this one, New York Magazine's coverage of the daily battles between runners, bikers, dog owners and cars.

Prospect Park isn't quite as bad, but I've had my share of run-ins with irate bikers. One foot over the line on a Saturday??? When there aren't any cars??? Come on. Don't worry I informed him that I was doing 15 miles on a steeply cambered road and he should try it some time, mother-f-er (my parents read this). It wasn't only that he informed me that I had one foot over the line, it was the tone and obscenities he used. Regardless, I really, really try not to fall into the "bikers are assholes" mentality.

But never, I tell you, never have I had a run-in with another runner anywhere but Central Park. Apparently I was running too slow. Yeah, it's called recovering, b-. And too bad anyway, I'll run as slow as I like.

You see how stressed out that crap gets me?! I can't take the entitlement, the indignation, "I'm a serious athlete" attitude.

Can't we all just get along?

I wish I could tell you that there is some happy ending to this type of story but...nope. as a runner and biker I can say that I hate everyone (who isn't me and who is generally about to knock me over). The absolute worst are the herds of tourists (often German) on bikes, slowly moving and blocking EVERYTHING. Definitely stressful.
