This book

is awesome: Spark: the Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain. Very informative and inspiring. It gave me the science behind what I've known intuitively all along: My life did a 180 when I started running, and it wasn't just a coincidence.

it gets a little science-y at times, but as long as you know the basics of neuro-transmitters and such it's not so bad. the chapters on stress, anxiety, and depression were amazing!

just picked this up based on your review. since you didn't like "once a runner," I was a little concerned, but I'm really enjoying it!
