Lovely day with dear mom. First, was brunch at Scottadito on Union Street. We like this restaurant not only for the food, but because it is across the street from Black Pearl, who we shun with a vengeance. I had the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, mom had poached eggs with Italian sausage, and Luis had a ham and ricotta frittata. Very fresh and light. Next we strolled the boutiques on 5th Ave before ending at D'Mai Urban Spa.
Mom and I both got massages. I had my usual masseur, Richard. He knows my issues - neck and shoulders are where I hold my tension, and the legs always need work from the running. He's definitely quite talented. Mom enjoyed her massage as well, and we both loved the orange infused water they set out everywhere for you.
I used to go to D'Mai a bit more frequently, maybe 3-4 times/year, but they keep raising their prices, from $90 up to $115 now for a 60 minute rub. So I have been shunning them for the past 6 months. It's tough. I feel very comfortable there, and it's so zen (talk about flowing chi)! But until I have the balls to ask for a 20% raise for myself, I may have to uphold the shun.
I've been to Lelsie Goldblatt DeNunzio before, and she is definitely equally talented (and a runner herself), and much more reasonably priced. Highly recommended if you're not so concerned about the spa atmosphere. No sauna, shower, massagey slippers, tea or orange infused water though...I have a gift certificate to Elan Day Spa, so we'll see how that measures up.
